Hythlodaeus finds Ger scrubbing floors somewhere mid-ship, as he expected he might, and decides against lingering around to observe him until he's noticed.
He has, he suspects, already been noticed.
"Ger, correct? Or-- another name, if you prefer it." If Ger doesn't get up, Hythlodaeus will crouch down by him as he cleans, but either way he will offer him a bottle of water a few moments later.
He couldn't miss him. There was that clean scent, that came with a nose tingling shot that waked up his senses. He'd smelt it on and off, around the ship, but it was the first time he smelled it so close.
He sat back on his heels, blinking, showing clear hazel eyes as he looked up to Hythlodaeus. The brush on the floor stayed where it was as Ger peered at him, and glanced at the water bottle.
"I got a few." He offered, glancing between the water bottle and Hythlodaeus. "Friend is okay for now."
The eyes that meet his with a clear and gentle curiosity are a similar lilac shade to Hythlodaeus' hair, and hold a soft but obvious glow to the irises. He balances on his heels easily, one arm braced to his knees, and nods.
"Friend it is, then. It just so happens that 'friend' is one of my favourite things to call people," he replies genuinely, before tilting his head and setting the water bottle down in the space between them.
"I do share the position with John, but he tends to be more... immediately available than I am." Since John doesn't sleep, and is overall far, far more diligent about incoming new people than Hythlodaeus has any motivation to be.
Not to say he's not interested in the 'work'. He's just not popping up next to every new person ten minutes in, and doubling up feels like too much.
"But you're welcome. How have you been getting on, here?"
He slowly took the water bottle and made to take a careful sip.
"John is a God. I get it." He offered a gentle shrug. "It's...weird. Here. People are all for trying to be kind. But they ain't they ain't that good at listening."
It is weird here, and for many reasons, but he thinks he understands what the young man is trying to say. There are a lot of people here who want to help in their own ways, sometimes come hell or high water...
"Is there something you've been trying to tell people?" he asks then, curious. "Something you don't think they're hearing?"
"My name is Germaryah Washington. But it- doesn't feel like me." He grimaced. "I get called a lot of things. Friend, sport, bud, Gerad, Shrimp, Twardowski, Coop, Cooper. You can pick one, or make one up. Just not...boy. I hate that one."

"But not a bad thing. Um- thanks for the water?" He was always thirsty, most days.

'Boy'? That's just rude, he would have thought, and not a name he would call anybody.
"I can certainly pick from the options, but do you have a preference?"

"But it's up to you. I ain't gonna fuss."
